I think it’s been pretty well established at this point that I’m a bit of a blogging trend whore. So after seeing how lostty, among others, has joined the 50 Questions bandwagon, I figured I had might as well do the same. Because I know all of you out there are just dying to know more about me, I’ll even answer the majority of the questions honestly! Really! So here we go!
1. Who is your favorite male anime character?
It’s a toss-up between Kyon and anime’s MAD SCIENTISTO Rintarou Okabe, but if I had to choose one I’d probably go with Okabe. While I revel in Kyon’s dry wit, Okabe is just the more developed individual overall.
2. Who is your favorite female anime character?
It’s another toss-up, this time between Sunako Kirishiki and Ringo Oginome. But I think of these two, I like Ringo just a bit more. While she’s psychotic in the best kind of way in the first ten episodes of the series, she steals every other scene that she’s in after that, even if she doesn’t do nearly as much. It’s difficult to one up Ringo’s personality, and Penguindrum does a magnificent job at keeping her fresh even after so many episodes.
3. What is your favorite anime soundtrack?
Considering that I have Aria’s on now, I’d probably have to say that. Nothing, even outside the realm of anime soundtracks, is quite so evocative of how I want my life to be. Very few songs from anywhere else can move me to the degree that Aria’s soundtrack has been able to do. But of the three main series, I’d have to say that the Origination’s is my favorite, but only because I tend to gravitate toward more melancholy songs.
4. What is your favorite anime opening + animation?
This was such a difficult choice that I had to make an effort to listen to every single one that I remember absolutely loving. It was a tough race, but Shiki’s first opening probably takes the cake. Buck-Tick really knows how to make something befitting such a spooky show.
5. What is your favorite anime ending + animation?
Aria the Natural’s Smile Again always gets me in an unbelievably happy mood, helped in part by the focus on the nighttime environ of Neo Venezia. Hell, I think any and all of the Aria EDs qualify as my favorites.
6. What is your favorite anime scene?
Sakaki’s New Year’s dream in Azumanga Daioh. I’ve always had a fascination with dreamscapes, and just seeing the impact that it had on her after that was enough to send me into giggle fits.
7. If you could meet an anime character who would it be?
Holo from Spice and Wolf. She’s both a clever and profoundly vulnerable person… er… deity, one that I wouldn’t mind getting to know over a pint and an apple fritter or two.
8. What anime character is most similar to you in terms of personality?
As despicable as it sounds, I think the character that best matches me in terms of personality is Deishu Kaiki from Nisemonogatari. While I’m nowhere near as manipulative or slimy, at least I’d like to think that I’m not, he and I share a very similar mindset in regards to our lives—if things seem to take a turn for the worse or in a way that doesn’t allow us room to escape, we do our best to avoid that. He also seems to be a fairly pragmatic person, something that I’d like to think of myself as when I’m not busy disproving that theory.
9. What is your favorite thing about anime?
Anime as a whole, Studio SHAFT in particular, tends to push the boundaries of animation in ways that I haven’t seen before. Some series, like Nisemonogatari, leave me awed with the sheer attention to detail and style that permeate everything that they do. Anime also has some of the greatest stories that I’ve seen, full of real human characters that are more relatable than many real people. Of course these series are few and far between, and sometimes I just like something pretty to look at without thinking too hard. In short, anime satisfies the majority of my entertainment needs, and so it has me coming back for more.
10. What is your least favorite thing about anime?
Most likely the lack of availability here in the States. It’s not a stretch to say that if I could, I would buy up every piece of merchandise from every series that I love and likely fritter away my paycheck month to month doing so. There are other things with the medium itself, but they aren’t worth getting in a huff over as much as the lack of availability.
11. Who’s your favorite anime couple?
Canonically, Shouma and Ringo from Penguindrum. Non-canonically, though it should be because they’re too fucking adorable, Natsume and Taki from Natsume Yuujinchou.
12. Who is your favorite anime animal?
Sakamoto from Nichijou!
13. What anime would make a good game?
Shiki, if played as something akin to Mafia and the Thief series. If it were about turning the town into vampires without being caught, or alternatively trying to figure out who’s infected by whom, that would be one hell of a fun strategy game.
14. What game would make a good anime?
Not sure if it’s being adapted as one yet, but Tales of Vesperia wants to be an anime so much that it hurts both the gameplay and itself. For games that haven’t been adapted into anime though, Deadly Premonition could make for one hell of an odd experience that I for one would like to see.
15. What was the first anime you ever watched?
Zatch Bell, back when it was airing many years ago.
16. Do you think you’ll ever stop watching anime?
If I do, it’ll be because of a lack of time, rather than a lack of interest. Considering that I always find a way to squeeze more time out of my day than I think I will, I don’t think that this will happen for a good long time—possibly never. As long as it keeps pumping out engaging stories and quirky comedies, I will always be there to overanalyze and criticize them at every turn while writing shitty analogies. You can count on that.
17. What is your favorite genre of anime?
Anything psychological or with a tinge of horror tends to pique my interest, though I acknowledge that these are just as prone to being crap as everything else.
18. What is your least favorite genre of anime?
Mecha and Sports generally tend to fall off my radar, though mostly mecha. Still, I’ll give either a shot if I can help it and won’t dismiss something right away.
19. Are you open about watching anime with people you know?
Considering that I get asked about anime stuff constantly by my friends, wrote a paper about Shiki just recently, constantly recommend Satoshi Kon movies to my uncle, and generally have anime playing at all hours of my free time for all in the house to hear because of the paper thin walls, I’d say that I’m pretty open. I don’t ever make it a point of conversation if I can help it, but if it goes in that direction I’m more than happy to provide my input.
20. Have you ever been to Japan?
No, but my brother and I have been considering it for a long while. Maybe I’ll ask him about it once I finish getting my Associate’s Degree.
21. What anime was the biggest letdown for you?
Most recently, probably Kamisama Dolls. After such a promising first episode, it fizzled and burst into flames pretty quickly, only to douse itself with more gasoline in a vain effort to put the flames out. Also, those fucking tits…
22. What anime was better than expected?
I’d have to say that Ben-To surpassed all my expectations by actually being a fun romp well worth the time investment. I didn’t expect anything approaching great levels of complexity, and it certainly delivered by keeping things simple, but it was simply too much of a joy to watch. Same went for Haganai and Mayo Chiki.
23. What is the best anime fight scene?
In terms of being fantastic, both animated well and choreographed extremely well to the point of getting the blood rushing, it’s a tie between Panty & Stocking’s first fight with Scanty & Kneesocks and Rock and Revy’s desperate defense of the money counterfeiter in the second season of Black Lagoon. As far as consistency goes, my vote would have to go to Samurai Champloo.
24. Who is your anime waifu?
Akari Mizunashi from Aria. Sometimes, you just need somebody to remind you of the simple pleasures in life, somebody that isn’t afraid of espousing them with the same fervor that a preacher would their religion. There is just something so hopelessly endearing in that.
25. What was your favorite video game as a child?
Spyro the Dragon: Ripto’s Rage
26. Most embarrassing moment?
Because I hadn’t gotten a lot of sleep the night before, I was in a pissy mood all day. So, while decked in drag with some friends at a café, I suddenly broke down when several of them started arguing over something that one of the friends did and started yelling at them to stop ganging up on him regardless of how justified it was. There was just something about crying in women’s clothes in public that makes me cringe in retrospect.
27. Can you drive?
I can, but not legally and not well with a stick shift.
28. Are you mature?
When the occasion calls for it, I certainly can be mature. Otherwise, my mind is happily frolicking in the gutter, calling other people names and laughing at racy jokes while making fun of bad films.
29. What year were you born?
1993
30. Do you prefer dogs or cats?
I’m much more of a cat person, seeing as I was raised around them most of my life, but I’m not afraid to get close to dogs.
31. Describe yourself physically.
6’2, weighing in at 120 lbs, I’m pretty damn lanky. Brown hair goes down past the shoulders and I’m perpetually bespectacled with a bad case of permastubble. Family friend who knows nothing of modeling and one of my ex-girlfriends who vaguely knew of modeling said I should be a model based off of my face, so I take that with a grain of salt regarding my looks.
32. What would you name your first child?
For a boy, either Frederic or Morgan. For a girl, either Ylfa or Ophelia.
33. What is the worst injury you’ve ever had?
When I was in sixth grade, I fell off my friend’s scooter down a steep incline and slid for 35 feet on my chin. It was after school, so I was immediately taken back to the infirmary to get treated. I never saw how bad it was, but the former military doctor who was also my teacher informed me that he estimated I’d need something around eleven stitches to seal it up properly. While the number was far less, likely because he thought the blood splatter made it larger than it really was, it still hurt like hell.
34. What is your worst habit?
I’m a naturally paranoid person. I constantly second-guess myself, look behind myself when I walk, and overthink when people compliment me. It’s a problem that extends to relationships as well, something that I’m happy to say I mostly curtailed in my last one. Still, it’s an uphill battle on muddy terrain.
35. Do you drink or smoke?
If there’s hooch around and I need to make a show infinitely more tolerable, then I’ll dip into it a bit until I’m sufficiently buzzed. Last time I drank somewhat heavily, it took seven shots of whiskey and three rum and cokes to get me at the point of slightly slurred speech. Don’t smoke.
36. Do you have a tattoo?
Nope, nor do I think I’ll get one just for the sake of it.
37. Are you a morning or a night person?
Does staying up through the night well into the morning count? Because that’s my ideal schedule. Otherwise, I’m mostly a night person, though if the day isn’t obnoxiously sunny I’ll be less inclined to be grumpy in the morning if I have to get up. My being up at 5 am writing this probably gives it away.
38. Have you ever slept past midday?
It’s very rare that I don’t, especially when I don’t have classes to worry about. Still, recently I’ve had to cut back because I was an idiot and signed up for two nine-hour days of class.
39. Do you regret anything?
There are quite a few things, believe it or not. I regret most of my online purchases that I could’ve put toward another trip out of the country, I regret all the times I’ve been bitter over extremely petty things, and I regret all the hurtful things I’ve ever said to those that I care about.
40. Can you count the number of friends that you have on one hand?
Nope. I may be a social recluse, but I do have a few people near and dear to me, and several that aren’t.
41. Do you wear glasses?
All the time, except when I’m sleeping, otherwise I get a headache.
42. Are you a picky eater?
When it comes to food that I like, I like it a very certain way. I don’t eat anything with too much cheese, I usually can’t stomach salad, and I will avoid avocado whenever possible. When it comes to trying new things though, I’m a little more open-minded.
43. Would you die for someone?
Nope. They wouldn’t like it and neither would I.
44. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Acceleration, aw yeah!
45. Do you believe in the supernatural?
The pragmatic cynic in me says no, but I don’t listen to him often. I’ve been fairly convinced for a long time, backed up by other people reporting similar things, that this house isn’t exactly clean in that regard. Other than that, I have a pretty healthy fascination with the supernatural, even if I do know it’s mostly silly stuff.
46. Would you rather be rich or famous?
Definitely rich, so I could avoid too much notoriety. I don’t do well with a lot of attention.
47. Have you ever committed a crime?
No, of course not! Who said I did? They weren’t there!
48. Time traveler or ghost?
Time traveler. There would be something oddly tranquil in it, knowing that you weren’t confined to one time period.
49. Does anybody have a crush on you?
I’m sure that I have legions of men and women mentally throwing themselves at me as I write this, but most have been silent about it thus far. If they were to speak up about it in the comments, that would certainly heighten their odds a little bit, wink wink nudge nudge.
50. Are you in a relationship?
As much as I like you, hypothetical questioner, I’m afraid we don’t have a thing. Alas, nor do I have a relationship with anyone else at this moment.
Well, that wasn’t too bad! If anybody has questions that weren’t in this that they’d like to ask, or if they would like to answer any in return or express any similarities in our choices, feel free to do so in the section below!

In conclusion: Inushide is an ordinary person.
Tall and non-fat…I hate you.
tl:dr: You are not a super hero. You have let me down.
I know it’s disappointing, but I am just like everyone else. I put my shoes on one at a time and fly to class and back just like people normally do, with minimal use of superpowers.

I think any meeting with Holo would be interesting, even if she probably wouldn’t agree.
Oh hell, Holo would probably find me boring as shit since I’m about as engaging in real conversation as a dead trout. Doesn’t mean I can’t dream though.

Tales of Vesperia actually has a movie made in 2009, though I have yet to see it. Vesperia is hands down my favorite video game up to date.
And it’s a draw for me between whether I would choose Sakamoto with his talking-enabled scarf or Nyanko-sensei, who can transform into a badass. Since I love food so much, I might just have to go with Sakamoto since I wouldn’t really appreciate Madara eating up all my snacks >.<
Huh, interesting. Not going to see it, but still interesting. It’s probably one of the best RPGs that I played, but there were a few instances of the story taking over when I didn’t really want it to.
And believe me, I was torn between Nyanko and Sakamoto too, but I figured that Sakamoto fit the definition of an animal a bit better, even with his scarf.
Wow, I always pictured you older (same year as me??) and with superpowers.
Really? That’s interesting! You’re not the first person who’s said it though, so I’d like to think that I’m decent at obfuscating maturity despite being quite lacking in that department. As for the superpowers, how else do you think I can write with such frequency? ;D
